A lien is a claim that is placed on property to ensure the ultimate payment of a debt. If you have had a lien placed on your property and have paid the debt then you may need to file a lien release. These releases are typically sent to the debtor when the debt is paid off. Once you have received your lien release you are then required to file it with the appropriate offices. If you do not file the release then they lien will remain on your property. If the lien is on your home then a title search in the future will show that lien. This is why it is highly important to file your lien release as soon as you receive it.
